Underground Gravina

The Cantine del Cavato: three levels dug into the tuffaceous bank with a depth of more than 20 meters that today present a small ethnographic museum. They rise in the Enclaustro Rupestre in the hypogeum complex of “Cavato San Marco”; a real rupestrian house that will excite you among the chiaroscuro and traces of the man that to every generation has enriched and modified spaces, places functions and vitality;

Underground passages of S. Emidio: by visiting the “Montemurro House” it is possible to see Don Eustachio’s and Don Saverio’s small rooms, the cistern, the set of priestly vestments of the two priests from Gravina in concept of sanctity, and various instruments of penance used by them. Going down a staircase for two floors below the ground floor, you reach a well-kept underground environment, where people gathered in prayer and meditation, going through the 14 stations of the cross.

The last stage of the tour takes you to discover the history and creation of the symbol of Gravina: the Cola Cola. You will go, in fact, at the Museum of Cola Cola, where the Loglisci family continues to produce bizarre colored terracotta in various shapes and these whistles in the shape of a rooster, whose name derives from the two-tone sound they emit when you blow into them, considered auspicious and able to ward off the negative forces of evil.
