Bike tour of Gravina and forest with visit to the winery and brunch

The route starts from the “Bastione Medievale”, which represented not only a means of defence, but also a meeting place for many Gravinesi because of the possibility to get water and maybe have a chat. You have to know, in fact, that the bastions were defensive elements built around the 15th century and had the purpose of protecting the “cortine”, that is the straight stretches of wall more exposed to enemy attacks. Crossing the Bastion you can enjoy the suggestive view of the archaeological area of Petramagna and of the countless caves that characterize the landscape of the opposite side of the Canyon.

From here, you will cross the Ponte Acquedotto, located on the ravine of the torrent, joining the new city to the old one, several times protagonist of important movie sets, such as in 2020 for the 007 movie “No Time to Die “, “Tolo Tolo” by Checco Zalone, “Pinocchio” by Garrone, “The Last Paradise” by Scamarcio, “Captain Mary”, “Mary Magdalene” and others.

Come to the Archaeological Park of the Padre Eterno, the first archaeological area excavated by researchers, which takes its name from the church Padre Eterno next to which it stands. In addition to being a necropolis, the Padre Eterno area was also an inhabited area and it is likely that there was an artisan district given the discovery of cisterns, canalizations, aqueducts, loom weights and furnaces.

Your last stop on this tour immerses you completely in nature as you reach the ‘Bosco Difesa Grande’ Nature Reserve, one of the most important woodland complexes in the whole of Puglia, a SCI (Site of Community Importance) since 1988 with its rich flora and fauna and with the highest concentration of native oak species in Italy.
